SEA TURTLE LUTH LAYING IN FLAMANDS BEACH
The day before yesterday, a magnificent leatherback turtle came to lay eggs on Flamands beach. 💙
Thanks to the person who sent us these images, respecting the animal (keeping a distance from the turtle). 🤩
❗As a reminder, when you witness a turtle laying eggs, before taking photos and videos, immediately call our emergency number: 0690 31 70 73.
This will ensure that the turtle is not disturbed while laying, and that the nest can be demarcated and secured as soon as possible to avoid any disturbance.
2025 is an extraordinary year, with the 3rd leatherback egg-laying recorded in just a few weeks - a record for Saint-Barthélemy! Since 1982, only 8 leatherback nests have been recorded on our beaches, 2 of which were successful.
As with every turtle nest, we appeal for respect for the perimeter set up and for behavioral rules to encourage the eggs to develop properly:
➡🐶❌ Dogs are strictly forbidden on all the island's beaches. The first reason is health-related, the second to protect biodiversity. Curious, dogs can harm the nest by digging up the eggs.
➡ 🧐📞In the event of sightings of turtle tracks, sea turtles or wrigglers on the beach, call us on 0690 31 70 73
➡👀📞In the presence of a sea turtle on the beach: keep your distance, turn off the lights, make as little noise as possible and call ATE on 0690 31 70 7
