The island of Saint-Barthélemy is surrounded by 18 satellite islets, half of which are privately owned.
To guarantee seabird reproduction, access to certain islets is prohibited or limited in time. Indeed, as urbanization has progressed, seabirds - most of which are protected under the Saint Barthélemy Environmental Code - have moved away from the main island, nesting only on the islets.
These sites are of great ecological importance and constitute reservoirs of biodiversity. For this reason, some or all of these islets are off-limits when logging birds are present.
The following islets are off-limits at all times: Gros Îlets, Îlet au vent, Îlet Tortue, Les Petits Saints, Pain de Sucre, Petite Islette, Table à Diable.
On Fourchue, the western part and Îlet au vent are off-limits at all times.
In addition, on islets where access is permitted, regulations prohibit overnight stays, fires, noise and pets in areas where these species nest (marked in red on the maps below).
